Kurovská, Lenka ; Macek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Ulrichová, Monika (referee)
This thesis deals with the area of spiritual care for persons that suffered a traumatic brain injury, stroke or another brain damage at adult age. It describes what these people have to go through after termination of acute treatment, what are their needs and coping strategies. It presents results of researches dealing with correlation between spirituality/religiosity and managing of unfavourable circumstances connected with the health condition, therapy and rehabilitation. It summarises the recommendations for suitable adjustment of spiritual care to somatic, communication, cognitive and psychosocial changes, which may occur as a result of the brain injury. It pays special attention to the use of expressive therapies and supplementary methods thanks to which it is possible to reflect spiritual topics also in other ways than in a classical conversation.
Determination of fine motor skills in patients after traumatic brain injury with Purdue Pegboard
Kaňková, Hana ; Krivošíková, Mária (advisor) ; Rodová, Zuzana (referee)
of diploma thesis: Objective In the Czech republic there is no normative data for Purdue pegboard test in any reprezentative group of people. First goal of this diploma thesis is to determine basic normative data Purdue pegboard test in not representative sample of people with traumatic brain injury at the age of 22-40 years in chronic phase. Second goal is to determine clinical utility of Purdue pegboard test in this clinical population group of people. The Student t-test and ambiguity proportion was used to statistic analyse the hypothesis. As a graphic processing was choosen the linear equation with the image of the Gaussian curve. There are analysed 3 case studies about people with traumatic brain injury to accomplish second goal. There is no significant difference in Purdue pegboard test score in employed and unemployed people with traumatic brain injury, equally to women and men with traumatic brain injury. There is evidence, that age influence score of Purdue pegboard test in men with traumatic brain injury, but not in women with traumatic brain injury. There are presented basic norms of Purdue pegboard test in people with traumatic brain injury in standard and percentile scale in this thesis. Normative data in people with traumatic brain injury makes easier to work with this clinical...
Attention and its aspects of people after traumatic brain injury
Kasalická, Michaela ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Uhlář, Pavel (referee)
The theoretical part of this thesis includes the theoretical concepts of cognitive functions and attention. The following section deals with traumatic brain injuries, their division and measurement of their severity. Another chapter includes characteristics and aspects of attention disorders that can set in as a result of traumatic brain injury, and the problems that can be caused by the attention impairment in the activities of daily living. The main point of this work is the neuropsychological assessment of attention and the following rehabilitation, especially the cognitive rehabilitation of attention and compensatory strategies of attention disorders. The practical part consists in the research proposal of efficacy of physical activity as the supportive supplement to the cognitive rehabilitation of attention via cognitive-rehabilitation program Neurop-2. It is based on the recent findings of the presence and characteristics of neurogenesis in adult persons. Keywords: traumatic brain injury, attention impairment, neuropsychological assessment of attention, cognitive rehabilitation, physical activity

Executive function disorder in persons after traumatic craniocerebral injury
Sahula, Petr ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Krámská, Lenka (referee)
This thesis is working with theoretical aspects of psychological construct called executive functions, integrative models and various cases from clinical practice. Second part is elaborating neuroanatomy of frontal lobes with main interest on functional systems of the prefrontal cortex. Third aspect of this thesis is introduction to the clinical perspectives of traumatic brain injury. The last section works with neurpsychological assessment including subchapter containing informations about most popular neuropsychological methods of executive function diagnostics. The practical part includes design of research from the field of diffuse axonal injury diagnostics. It suggests possible method of detecting this "silent" brain injury. Keywords: executive functions, prefrontal cortex, traumatic brain injury, neuropsychological assessment
Biological changers of CNS caused by trauma
Maulenová, Kristýna ; Šivicová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Kulišťák, Petr (referee)
This thesis focuses on traumatic brain injury and its negative impact on both the brain as a whole and component brain structures. The first two chapters of the theoretical part summarize the information of the anatomy and functions of central nervous system and the most common causes of traumas and its characteristics. The crucial part of the thesis consists of the psychological consequences of traumas arranged according to brain lobe that plays the major role in a clinical manifestation of impaired functions. The thesis also sums up the field of neurodiagnotics and mentions some concrete methods that are being used when dealing with patients after traumas. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with possibilities and examples of neurorehabilitation as well as factors which are involved in the prognosis of the posttraumatic condition. A part of this chapter also pays attention to the brain plasticity. The last two chapters in this segment refer to other literature from this field. The empirical part presents the research proposal of changes of the brain parts that are involved in facial emotion recognition among TBI patients. The research tools are Ekman 60 Faces Test and an imaging technique SPECT. Key words: Central nervous system, brain lobes, neurodiagnostics, psychological...

The Effectiveness of Cognitive Training in Patients after Traumatic Brain Injury or Stroke
Kozáková, Eva ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Stehlík, Luděk (referee)
Recently, the literature concerned with the possibilities and limitations of working memory training has been growing rapidly. Nonetheless, there are still no clear answers about the principles of its effectiveness or transfer effect. The main questions we ask are about effectiveness of cognitive training in patients after stroke or TBI. To our knowledge this group hasn't been studied in this context yet. To do this, we compare two types of cognitive training - extensively studied N-back training (n=11) and still more popular group cognitive therapy (n=9) with a placebo control group (n=5) who recieves "training" in a simple computer game. The placebo control group then continues in N-back training. Our hypothesis is that after 3 weeks the two trainings should lead to significantly higher gains in cognitive tests scores than the placebo condition. Also, we expected N-back to be more effective than group cognitive training in domains more closely related to executive control. We tested attention, fluid intelligence, short-term and working memory. We also recorded participants well-being. Following training, there were no significant differences between N-back and group training. N-back group scored significantly higer on Trail Making Test A than control group (p=0,026). Although our study doesn't...
Memory function disorders of persons after traumatic brain injury
Zajícová, Markéta ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Uhlář, Pavel (referee)
The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the temporal aspect of memory allocation, memory allocation according to the type of information and also in terms of processes. Another chapter is on memory impairment, retrograde and anterograde amnesia. The following section includes traumatic brain injuries, their division, mechanism of development and comatose condition measurement, which results in the pivotal division of brain injuries - mild, moderate and severe. The main point of this work is the cognitive rehabilitation, which should precede a neuropsychological examination. In case of memory, there are some specific tests (AVLT, ROCFT, BVMT-R). The thesis presents researches on the cognitive rehabilitation, information about the computer-assisted rehabilitation and books that deal with the topic. The thesis then briefly apprises of the possibilities of the pharmacotherapy, in the form of cognitives, psychostimulants and nootropics. The conclusion summarizes the psychological impact on the family and patient. The practical part is based on the research proposal of cognitive rehabilitation of memory, it is based on the latest research published in impacted journals and covers several approaches that are linked to the neuroplasticity or the cognitive training. Keywords: traumatic brain injury,...
